Translation and editing/proofreading

Over the last 8 years, we have built up a broad network of translators from around the world. We cover most of the world’s business languages and most areas of expertise. All translators are tested and screened thoroughly before working for us. This way of working with a broad selection of freelance translators allows us to be flexible (quick deliveries, jobs over weekends etc) and reasonably-priced. We always take the local culture into consideration when translating texts. A translation should be more of a localisation; always having the target readership in mind when adapting a text. This is where Google Translate will never make the grade...

As well as translation, we can also edit and proofread documents; adding that final touch to make a document professional and suitable for the local readership.

Prices for translation are on a per word basis (number of words in source text), and vary according to language combination, complexity of text/subject area and deadline. For editing and proofreading we charge per hour.

Professional language training and coaching

In today’s business climate, it is often essential to be able to communicate with clients, suppliers, business partners and investors from around the world. Having the ability to communicate in your counterpart’s language in a confident manner will always give you a head start in business. Learning a language does not have to be about sitting in a classroom doing grammar and vocabulary exercises. Learning a language should be about communicating, about daring to be the same, consummate professional you are in your mother tongue, in the language you are learning.

Avison helps professionals who need to improve their communication skills in various languages. We send a language trainer out to the client’s place of work (or can organise courses at our offices in Stockholm, Sweden, or at partner schools in other countries), and run courses in small groups or 1-1, at times that suit both learner(s) and trainer. Courses can be general or more specific, for example presentation skills, written communication, and so on.

Where possible, course material comes from the learners’ place of work and a course plan is made to suit their needs.

Cross-cultural communication

Together with our business partner, Speech Masters International (SMI), we work with large multinational companies, helping their trainees and management with cross-cultural issues. Even if a large international company has the same group language, it is not always straightforward for the staff to be able to communicate with one another. Different nations do things differently... very differently! Even in an area like the Nordic Region, which could easily be considered to have a fairly uniform culture, the differences in communication styles are many, varied and not always evident on the surface...
